Playing with light

We are leaving for the States in 5 days, we are going to spend Christmas and New Year's with family. This is the first time ever that I do not decorate the house for Christmas... I had to do a little something... We spend a lot of time in the kitchen (or is it just me?) so I hung some lights on the window, and taped some paper snowflakes too. All in all, a good wintery holiday nook. We are making paper snowflake garlands with the kids in my art class. They are so beautiful!

Worth reading

I admire Keri Smith for her work, her ideas, her continuous approach to creativity as a daily connection with the world. I read this interview today, and I am inspired. Let her inspire your day too.

After the snow

Nothing like looking for nature's abstract art.

View from my studio window this morning. Need I say more?

This morning

This sums it all up... It is beautiful but somehow it makes me sad.

A fall walk with a friend

What a gorgeous day for a walk. We welcomed the sun again, as it was hiding for a while behind some grey clouds and lots of rain. The dogs were loving the open space, and the puddles... I came home with a very tired and stinky dog, but the smile on her muzzle!

Take a peek

One of my great teachers told me once that our profession is like a chair with three legs. The first leg is the practice of the profession, the work you make. The second leg is learning, as one should always be open to new ideas and concepts. The third leg is teaching, passing down the knowledge.

If any of the legs is missing, the chair falls. I am so glad I am TEACHING again, and tomorrow I start a class as a STUDENT! Woohoo!

Look down!

Many times we do not even see the beauty at our feet. I make an effort to keep track of all the textures and designs bellow.

I want this!

"…when I’m lost or just plain lazy, when I really don’t know or my mind draws a blank, there is always my “Fornasetti secret formula” to get me going. Every object by Fornasetti, for example the teapot with eyes, which I have in my kitchen (and that I love), is an open door through which one is immediately sucked, like in Alice in Wonderland. And for me that’s something you can’t put a price on. Even after twenty years on the shelf, the teapot is a door that still opens. The magic still works. A Fornasetti object has the power to change vibrations in a place, not because it’s a handsome decorative object – it’s nothing to do with that. You can be in a very handsome room, very well-decorated, with a really beautiful design, for all that it is still a room grounded in real life. But put a Fornasetti in it and it takes on a very different dimension, the dimension of dream."

Fall is here!

Great shapes, colors, and most of all great design. The little chestnuts fall from great height, protected by the cocoon, which bounces and opens to reveal the wonder of its treasure... Now we just have to roast them.

Inspiring, like the amazing art of Vija Celmins.

I still think like a printmaker, and my mind still works everything in layers and a little backwards! I think it has always been so, and that is why I ended up liking printmaking.

These sketches are the first steps towards my return to painting... I like the idea so far... if it is hard to imagine what it would look like when is finished, do not despair as I plan to walk you through the process.

Postcards from a trip

We took a trip to Cinque Terre this weekend, color and shape everywhere.

More color

Salento, a small town in the Colombian mountains that we visited this summer. What an interesting welcome to a visitor.

A walk

It is cooler this week. We went for a walk with Moca (my brown dog) and this is what we saw. Are these the colors of fall? I see them all around now.

Look at what I found!

Napkins worth framing! Where else? At Ikea, where I went looking for a new desk/working surface to match my renewed interest in making art... A good day indeed!

Color inspiration

The forgotten, sometimes overlooked back. I do not see my own but I surely see a lot of them.
From southern California more inspiration facing away: Salomón Huerta.
